I’ve sat down to write this post a bunch of times but never finished because it didn’t seem real. I apologize in advance for how long this post is (& how overdue it is!) I wanted to make sure I shared all of what has gone on in the past couple months. Mike and I have been on this journey for months now. We were constantly looking at houses from time to time but finally got serious about buying a house this past spring.
Our condo was truly our first home together~ it was Mike and I’s first experience of living together. We got engaged there (Literally!! Read our whole engagement story here) got married, new job offers, disagreements, hard decisions, dance parties in the kitchen, and everything in between. It has been so so good to us and honestly I’m sad. I know I’m gonna miss it. But I’m ready for this next step of life and everything that will come with it.
The Journey Begins…
Our home buying journey started in spring, where I would literally look online for hours at homes. After looking online, we would go and look at a ton of those homes I saw online, in person. Lemme tell ya, home photographers can really trick a girl. A lot of the ones we looked at were duds. Then we found one that was straight from HGTV. I fell in love. Mike even liked it. Which had been one of our biggest obstacles in the home buying process because anything I would like, he wouldn’t or vice versa.
Not So Dreamy Home
To make a long story short, we went through the whole process- put in an offer, bid on the price, and did a home inspection. That’s when we realized it wasn’t as beautiful as it seemed. Although the house LOOKED good, everything else was bad. The electrical needed to be fixed, the way the house was grated there was no doubt we would have water damage or a flooded basement. Plus the price we had negotiated on + all the problems we would need to fix, would leave us house poor! I was upset (aka heartbroken) and felt like we would never find our dream home again. I was sure that this one was it and we’d never find anything better.
The Search Continues
Of course that was super dramatic, but when I tell you we looked at a lot of houses and they were duds, I truly mean it. Think very old and outdated, or new and small. I thought for sure nothing was going to be better than that one. We kept searching though.
And then we found it!! An updated house with the perfect amount of space for us that had an open kitchen/living room, 3 bedrooms, and a big basement with a built in desk that was so cute. I fell in love (again) and Mike and I actually agreed. Plus, after our inspection there wasn’t the problems that we encountered at the previous home (AKA we didn’t have to deal with all the un-fun stuff you don’t want to spend your money on!) We put in an offer, got accepted, waited the 60 day close period and then FINALLY we closed last month.
The home buying process was such a rollercoaster (to say the least.) The end result was so worth it but damn, I won’t be going through that again any time soon.
Now that we are in the house I have been enjoying decorating and setting up each space. I can’t wait to share more home decor with you all and share more of our home. If you have read this far, thank you. I realize this was a LONG post and am so appreciative that you took the time to read the whole thing. 🖤 I’d love to know what type of “home things” you are looking to see more of?? Leave me a comment and let me know!
