My baby is ONE!! (13 months as of this month! Seriously WHERE does the time go?!) We celebrated Bodie turning one last month with family and friends. I am beyond grateful that we were able to gather and be together in the same room for the first time in what feels like forever. I knew I wanted to make Bodie’s birthday extra special since we weren’t able to be together in one room for his baby shower. (You can read more about his drive-by baby shower here)

The Theme

I have been planning Bodie’s birthday since before he was even born. One morning, Mike and I were laying in bed and we started talking about different themes and came up with “CowaONEga.” That theme stuck. From there we went for a “vintage surfer vibe” theme. (Here is the Pinterest board if you’re interested in the same type of theme.) But truly all of the planning was worth it because I LOVE how every detail turned out. I knew I wanted a photographer as well to capture every moment. I wanted to be able to stay present at the party, and not worry about taking pictures. I cannot recommend getting a photographer enough. It was incredibly worth it and I’m so excited with all of the in-the-moment photos we got and that both mom and dad were able to be in them.

Details

Bodie’s birthday took place at Waterlemon, which is such a cute little play place in the western suburbs. It was the perfect space for his birthday party since he was able to play with all the other kids, while the adults were able to chat with one another. We had his party in the morning and served brunch. My mom made a shark fruit bowl as well as the cupcakes with the cutest surfers with Bodie’s face in them and surfboard rice krispies! We also had custom cookies made my Sift’n and they were delish!

The day went by so quickly, but Bodie loved playing with all the other kids and enjoyed his smash cake. It’s clear he loves sweets just like his mama.

This past year has been a dream. I feel incredibly lucky to be Bodie’s mom. He is truly the best boy. Every minute watching him learn and grow has been the best. I remember thinking multiple times throughout the last year that *this* was my favorite stage. But as he continues to get bigger, I keep thinking the exact same thing, so it’s hard to pinpoint what has been my favorite. It’s so fun to see all the new things he can do.
